Number of connections for webRDP Client

Question:
How many RDP connections can my users make, through Unified Workspace, using the webRDP client?


Solution:
As the webRDP client is very resource intensive, for the UW relay server, we've found that the each relay can handle approximately 25-30 connections before the relay begins to experience slowness issues and user disconnects.

Unfortunately, this is due to how the HTML5 webRDP client works. The webRDP Gateway is very CPU intensive, as it has to translate HTML5 into RDP commands, send those commands to the back end RDP server, get the response then translate RDP into HTML5 commands and send them to the user. 

We therefore suggest if providing RDP applications to a large group of concurrent users, additional relay servers are deployed, behind a load balancer, to spread the workload.


Another option is to use UW to proxy Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection client (MSTSC.exe).  This doesn't provide as seamless of an experience, but it does allow for more concurrent connections, as it is just proxying data through a port.

This configuration is a good option for use with the Personal webRDP webApp.
