6.4 upgrade stuck checking databases

6.4 upgrade stuck checking databases

Issue:

When running the 6.4.x installer to upgrade from 6.3.x, the process has bee stuck at the "Checking databases" step for a considerable amount of time.

Solution:

The Checking "databases" step is actually modifying the contents of any hSQL databases that exist on the server.  UW ships with some default hSQL databases for demo purposes, such as the database for Audit Services, and sometimes the features that use them are not swiched over to using MySQL or MSSQL.

The issue is that the databases, especially the Audit database can become extremely large, and thus it takes a considerable amount of time for the modifications to be made.  It is most commonly the Audit database that causes this issue.

There are two options available when this issue occurs.
  • Wait for the process to finish, which we've seen take up to 24 hours.
  • Delete the Audit database files and replace them with a copy of the stock shipping files.
With this option, all existing data in the database will be lost.  Please contact Lenovo Software Support for assistance with this option.
